Introducing Newest Joe Martens High School Scholars!

We would like to introduce our latest JMScholars, all of whom are from the Zambrano / San Francisco de Soroguara area! Four of them will be beginning their first days of high school this weekend in San Francisco (Jaime, Wendy, Isaac and Joe), while Carlos Daniel will be continuing his high school career in Zambrano. Many thanks to JMS Area Coordinator Andrea Benitez who planned a wonderful introductory meeting for the new Scholars as well as a delicious lunch (thanks to her Mom as well!). Many thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Burke and Mr. and Mrs. Mazza for helping to support these 5 new scholars. If anyone is interested in directly supporting one of these new scholars, please contact us at che_fund@yahoo.com. $200 goes a long way!!!

Andrea in Action! Part Dos

Our latest update from Andrea on August 16th…she is an outstanding teacher, student and example for the rest of out Central Honduras Education Fund Scholars!

In her words…

“Aquí les mando otras fotografías de mi práctica con los niños de preparatoria; las últimas semanas he temido mucho trabajo, el día de hoy comencé a dar clases y fue un día agotador. Pero gracias a Dios me esta yendo muy bien, hasta el momento no se me han presentado problemas.”

Andrea in Action!

Andrea send us these pictures today (7/13/2011) and let us know her most recent evaluation went superbly!

“Estas son algunas fotos  con los niños de primer grado a los que les di clases. Fue una bonita experiencia y a la vez difícil porque tuve 2 alumnos especiales, una niña con problemas de audición y otro niño con un cebero retardo mental.  Hoy nos evaluaron y la maestra del grado al que le di clases me felicito y me dijo que seré una gran maestra. Esta práctica fue un gran éxito  y espero que las que me faltan sean iguales o mejor que esta!!!!” – Andrea

“These are some pictures of the 1st graders that I was teaching. It was a beautiful experience and at the same time difficult because I have 2 special students, a girl with hearing problems and a boy with intellectual disabilities. Today they evaluated us and the professor applauded me and told me I would one day be an excellent teacher. This practice was a huge success and I hope the remaining classes are equally or better than this one!!!!”

Update – Saira’s Academic Progress

Saira Raudales ‐ Our 3rd year University Scholar Saira has completed 24 of 44 classes. Upon completing her curricula, Saira will begin 800 hours of internship credit. Her estimated graduation date is May of 2012. Saira recently sent her updated class completion summary to the Fund along with her 2011 semester 1 budget and expense sheet. She also continues to excel in her role as Student Coordinator, in which she is overseeing the progress of our seven current Joseph Martens Scholars as well as managing the dispersal of their funding. Additionally, Saira has begun to introduce Andrea Benitez to the role of Student Coordinator. Andrea is in line to follow in Saira’s footsteps and begin her University career in 2012 as a Central Honduras Education Fund Scholar. More on Andrea to come…

Dave, Aaron and Mike Visit Scholars in Honduras!

The Central Honduras Education Fund Family

In May of 2010, Dave, Aaron and Mike had the opportunity to visit with the 4 current Central Honduras Education Fund and Joseph Martens Scholars in El Ocotal, Honduras. We had a lovely lunch prepared by Saira’s sister, and had an outstanding conversation with the students and their parents. These visits are invaluable for us as an organization to maintain a fluent understanding of how the Central Honduras Education Fund can best support our scholars and their families. Check out our photo section for images of the May visit!
