*The cost to support a student for one year of university study is approximately $1500 – $1800. On average, it takes a student 5 years to complete their degree, making the total cost of supporting a university student $7500 – $9000. The difference in student yearly costs (~$1500 – $1800) is generally based on a students decision to live in the capital city Tegucigalpa or commute from their rural hometown to the capitol, where the two main universities in Honduras are located. The decision to commute or rent an apartment is entirely up to the student and his or her family. In either case, they are fully funded for transportation or rental costs. For example, our Scholar Saira is currently renting a room in Tegucigalpa, where she lives with several other University students.

2) Sponsor a Joseph M. Martens High School Scholar

For $200/year, a donor can cover the total cost of sending a Honduran student to high school for one year. Donors will receive personalized updates about their sponsored student(s) and a great deal of good karma. If you are interested in sponsoring a High School Scholar, please email us at

*High School in Honduras consists of 6 years of study, however most of our Scholars have already completed at least one year of studies before being accepted into our program. A list of our current Joe Martens Scholars can be found HERE.
