Jairo Varela
Jairo is from the community of Cantoral. His father produces pataste and his mother produces herbs and tomatillo with a women’s cooperative. They have been supporting Jairo to live with his aunt and attend high school in the nearby community of Monte Redondo. However, education in Monte Redondo only reaches 9th grade. To finish high school, students must travel to nearby larger communities such as the capital city of Tegucigalpa or the city of Talanga. It is Jairo’s dream to finish high school and study to be a mechanic, but the travel costs put a strain on family resources. Jairo is an excellent student with a strong drive to achieve his goals.
